Updated: Jul 18, 2020

The Tear Cap Workshops is looking for participants. Tear Cap Workshops is a non-profit organization dedicated to unleashing creativity in Hiram. Located at the site of a former sawmill, Tear Cap Workshops is committed to promoting and enriching hands-on learning opportunities.

Join them for their upcoming April classes.

  • Basketmaking Class, with instructor Ida Atkinson, on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., with a half-hour break for lunch.

Make your own fun and festive basket, just in time for Easter. This long-handled basket with pops of color would be perfect for gathering eggs, or for gathering herbs and flowers later in the year.

Tools and supplies provided, no previous experience necessary. Come learn the basics of weaving and leave with a beautiful and functional basket.

  • Tuition and materials: $45 Class limit: 10 participants, with a minimum of 5 participants needed.

  • Ages: 18+ to register

Meet at Tear Cap Workshops in the Community Woodworking Shop. Please bring your own bag lunch (there is a refrigerator and microwave available if needed).

  • Basics of Woodworking Shop, with instructor Henry Banks, on Saturday, April 18, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., with a half-hour break for lunch.

  • This is a basic introduction to the major power tools in the Community Woodworking Shop: the planer, jointer, table saw, chop saw, and bandsaw. Safety basics and familiarity with shop equipment are the goals of this one-day class. You will go over the basics of squaring material, making adjustments on the machines, and staying safe while doing it. No previous experience necessary; those with woodworking experience can benefit from this one-day overview, as well as those at the beginner level. This is a great first step to completing that woodworking project you’ve been dreaming of during Rent-a-Bench hours. Tuition and materials: $40 Class limit: 6 participants, with a minimum of 2 participants needed to continue with the class.
