Lady Luck reigns in the Blue Ribbon.
The Fryeburg Fair boasts the Northeast’s largest parade and livestock exhibition. Despite several rainy weekdays and a cool, cloudy morning, the sun came out on Saturday, October 6, just in time for the Grand Parade.
Veteran fair goer Julie Giles of Lady Luck Farm in Steep Falls, has been in the parade with her show oxen since 1976. Several years ago, she decided to step it up a notch and add themes and costumes. With great themes like Proud to be an American and The Patriots, she’s placed second every year through 2016.
“Last year we went with Rudolph’s Island of Misfit Toys and tied for first place” said Giles from a phone interview today “we really wanted a full blown win this year, and we finally got it!”
For 2018, she chose Toy Story as her theme. Armed with a handful of good hearted friends and 4 of her prize oxen, she wowed the crowds and the judges alike. “We had T-Rex, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Bo-Peep and the Potato Heads!” beamed Giles, “the kiddos loved it”.
Blue Ribbon in hand, Giles has already moved on to the Sandwich Fair with her oxen and they’ll be back to pulling tonight. Learn more about Julie and her family of prize winning oxen on her Facebook page, Lady Luck Farm.
